Dr. Rigoberto Florez
Introduction to matroids I. USC Columbia College of Mathematics, September 2005;
Introduction to matroids II - USC Columbia College of Mathamatics, September 2005;
Rigoberto Flórez, "Lindstrom's conjecture on a class of algebraically non-representable matroids". European Journal of Combinatorics 2005; Rigoberto Flórez and D. Forge, "Minimal non-orientable matroids in a projective plane," submited 2005; Found a new type of matroid called "harmonic matroids," of which full algebraic matroids are an example. Discovered how to construct a projective plane in harmonic matroids. Have a construction of projective plane in full algebraic matroids as a corollary of this construction. (This paper was mostly written at SUNY.); Working on representations of the "complete lift matroid" and "Bias matroid" as a subgeometry of a finite projective plane, for which I found a characterization for the representability for these matroids in a projective plane. (About 80% of this project has been made at SUNY); (Next project 2006) The harmonic conjugate is a very good tool for working in algebraic matroids, but it is not well understood how and why this concept works. Plan to study this concept and try to make some advances on the following problem: Given three collinear points in a full algebraic matroid, does there always exist a harmonic conjugate of one of them with respect to the other two remaining points? Want also to find a combinatorial formula for the harmonic conjugate; “Harmonic Matroid as a Tool to Prove a Lindstrom Conjecture” (presentation of a paper) USC Columbia, College of Mathamatics, September 2005; Harmonic Conjugation in Harmonic Matroids. (Submitted to be published December 2005.); “A Construction of a Projective Plane in a Harmonic Matroid.” The Mathematical Association of America, Joint mathematics meeting 2006. San Antonio, TX; Rigoberto Flórez and D. Forge, "Minimal non-orientable matroids in a projective plane". This paper was accepted to be published. Journal: Journal of Combinatorial Theory (JCTA). October 2005; Minimal Non-orientable Matroids in a Projective Plane.” Meeting: The XXVIII Ohio State-Denison Mathematics Conference, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH May 2006; Writing a book about intermediate algebra with Professor Rose. Currently completed 2 chapters of 10. It is a two year project.
